This project was completed during a course at Humber College in 2019.
The objective of making this project was to create a calendar using a grid system and a custom typographic design for the name of the month, September. My strategy was to consider the month and associate with some characteristics, like a theme, weather, special holiday or season.
My target audience is people who want to look at a calendar not only to consult the dates but also to appreciate the whole design as a nice image or picture to have at home as a decorative calendar. And in addition, be able to improve their environment with a nice and interesting calendar that will be there for appreciation.
The sketches for this project have different options for layout. The typography I was mainly thinking about the Autumn season, so my drawings contain leaves with the letters.
The main challenge was to make the custom typographic design using the word "September". In my sketches, I had initially in mind to use vectors to create it. However, my professor pushed me forward to try using real leaves for this project to create something more unique. Challenge accepted!
The final layout was made using selected types of leaves from Humber College with different colours. First, the number “9” composition was made by arranging the leaves trying to maintain a balance in colours and the number of leaves. Second, the construction of the “September” type was obtained by playing with the leaves and putting them together like a nice puzzle. With these two arrangements, many photos were taken. Third, individual photos of leaves were taken to be able to fill the empty spaces in the composition.
Finally, Photoshop was used to put the best photos together with marble background and InDesign to add the dates of the month, year, weekdays and the holiday.
